Korean Collection for Type Cultures

KCTC provides general, patent, and safety deposit services.

General Deposit

The KCTC accepts bacteria, archaea, yeasts, filamentous fungi and microalgae that can be handled at Biosafety level 1 and 2. Strains sent for deposition in the general collection should have been used in work that has already been published or in preparations for publication. Strains deposited in this manner will be available to the international scientific community in both academic and industrial institutions only for research purposes. General deposit is free of charge. Please review your legal situation with regards to the Convention on Biological Diversity and the Nagoya Protocol BEFORE beginning the deposit process. (CBD_Republic of Korea) To protect the DEPOSITOR’s rights and to promote the utilization of biological resources in the field of microbiological research and development, a MATERIAL DEPOSIT AGREEMENT (MDA) should be concluded between the DEPOSITOR and KCTC.

※ When you send the strains for deposit to KCTC by EMS, please print out the file of the plant quarantine object and attach it to the side of the package cover.
** If you send the strains through courier services, the process of customs clearance and quarantine will be faster to handle.

STEP1.
Please submit a written deposit request (application form) to the person in charge through e-mail (deposit@kribb.re.kr)
STEP2.
After review of the application form, the KCTC will contact you.
STEP3.
KCTC will preserve the strain with the KCTC accession number after all quality checks are done.
STEP4.
A deposit certificate with KCTC accession number will be sent to the depositor by email.
* Approximately 4 to 8 weeks are needed from the time of submission to the issuing of a deposit certificate.
